Mr. Condon was born on the 30th of January 1939 in New York, New York. Richard was the eldest of six children to Richard Wathen Condon and Virginia Speed Condon of Louisville, Kentucky. He was raised and educated in Rye, New York. Richard continued his education at Iona Preparatory School and Suffield Academy before completing his Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and History from the University of Michigan in 1961. Following his collegiate studies, Richard enlisted with the Marine Corps Reserves and then moved to Palo Alto, California, where he met and married Carin Elvi Christensson (1939 – 1999) of Loddekopinge, Sweden. Together they moved to Conroe, Texas in 1973 to raise their two sons, Carl and Eric. After his wife’s passing Richard moved to Houston where he lived until his death.
Richard spent his professional career as a residential developer, builder, self-taught designer of Prairie Style architecture, and investor. He was a voracious reader of philosophy, theology, architectural history, and economic theory. Richard enjoyed playing with his five granddaughters that he oft referred to as his “angels”, following sports, all things maize and blue, movies, and exercising with his friends and staff at The Houstonian club. Most important of all, Richard was a patriarch type figure who left behind many indelible marks that will live on with the people he touched throughout his life. He was a devoted family man, devout Catholic, philosopher and intellectual. He had a thirst for lifelong learning, a dedication to hard work and excellence, and above all else a commitment to Love.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents and his wife. He is survived by his five siblings, Virginia Viscusi, John Condon, Helen Powell, William Condon and Christopher Condon; as well as his sons, Carl Richard Condon and wife Kristin, and Eric Speed Condon and wife Bianca; and his five granddaughters, Sophia Condon, Claire Condon, Gabriella Condon, Maya Condon, and Monika Condon; his sister-in-law, Margareta Christensson; and his nephews, Marc Viscusi, Seth Condon, Josh Condon, and Will Condon
