Rex Davis Campbell Sr.

Rex was the owner of Machine Shop for over 50 years. He was also a deacon and usher at Ludtke United Methodist Church. Rex will be remembered for his teasing jokes, his wildly entertaining stories, his unfailing work ethic, his generous smile and his willingness to come at any time of day or night to help anyone in need and then lie about having already been awake.

In his later years, he taught us patience and allowed us to show him a small measure of the service he had long showed all of us. A father like you is rare, one that’s so generous, smart and kind. A father like you is what everyone needs, full of smiles and laughter, always doing great deeds. Nothing can replace a father like you but when you get to heaven, God will be lucky to have you too.

Preceded in death by his parents, Rufus David Campbell and Mikey Ruth Freeman Campbell; brother, Morris Campbell; sisters, Lucille Tyler, Lois Mix and Hazel Hewitt.

He is survived by his adoring wife, Beverly Campbell; children, Rex Campbell, Jr. and wife, Mary; Daughter; Susan Whetzel and husband, Chris; grandchildren, Zach Campbell and wife, Morgan; Magen Wright and husband, William; Taylor Whetzel and Fiancé Kiera Currie, Jewels Campbell and Brandon Whetzel; great-grandchildren Merritt Wright, Campbell Wright and Maylie Wright; Sister, Gloria Cross; Brothers, Louie Campbell and wife Carol and John Campbell, as well may nieces, nephews and friends.

Pallbearers: brother-in-law, David Garey; nephews, Mike Campbell, Steve Campbell, Greg Campbell, Danny Cross, Connan Campbell and friend, Wade Burris.

A visitation for Rex will be held Wednesday, January 5, 2022 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, TX 77023. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, January 5, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, TX 77023. A committal service will occur Wednesday, January 5, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, TX 77023.
