Deaconess Renita Ann Cooper-Jackson was born in Biloxi, Mississippi on Sunday, February 5, 1967, to Etta Luvine Cooper and Curtis Cooper. She was baptized at Main Street Missionary Baptist Church in Biloxi, MS under leadership of Pastor Kenneth R. Haynes, Sr.
Renita attended Biloxi Public Schools, graduating from Biloxi Senior High School in 1985. Our Lord endowed Renita with the gift of beautiful soprano vocals, which she utilized as a member of the choir at her childhood church, numerous talent shows, at Nichols Junior High School, Biloxi High School’s “Biloxians” Choir and the Keesler Air Force Base Soul Choir. Renita was Student Body President at Nichols Junior High School during her freshman year and maintained active student involvement throughout her early education.
Renita pledged Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Alcorn State University May 1990. She furthered her studies, earning a Master’s Degree of Education in August 2001, from Texas Southern University in Houston.
On July 20, 1991, Renita and Robert were united in Holy Matrimony. They welcomed a baby boy, Robert Jackson III, the joy of their hearts. Renita victoriously entered eternal life at MD Anderson Cancer Center.
Upon receiving her diploma, Renita moved to Houston. On August 23, 1991, Renita began work in the Houston Independent School District, dedicating her life as an Educator, serving most recently at Sharpstown High School and Kashmere Senior High School. She advanced her career with paramount dedication serving dutifully as Kashmere’s Special Education Department Chair.
Deaconess Renita joined Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church and most recently The Bridge in Houston, Texas. Abiding under the pastorate of Dr. Greg Patrick at The Bridge, Renita ministered faithfully as Matron of the Youth Choir. Renita lifted her voice in song as a blessed member of the Women’s Choir and Women’s Christian Fellowship, where she will be greatly missed.
Renita was endowed with a very sweet spirit, spreading joy and laughter throughout her forty-five years. There are no words to describe how Renita touched the hearts and lives of all of us with her gracious spirit of love and angelic excellence.
Gone before, as God called them from labor to reward, were her esteemed oldest sister, Sabrena Cooper-Jones; her loving mother-in-law, Carolyn Jackson and a special aunt, Hazel Gilliard.
Forever treasuring precious memories of Renita, she leaves her devoted, loving and caring husband, Robert Jackson Jr.; their beloved only child, Robert Jackson III, her mother, Etta Cooper and father, Curtis (Kitty) Cooper of Biloxi, MS; father-in-law, Robert Jackson, Sr. and stepmother-in-law, Audrey Jackson both of Houston, TX; adoring sisters: Denise Cooper, Argie Cooper Brown (Darin) and Tasha Battle; her sister-in-law, Sheila (Michael) Frank of Houston; her best friend forever and sister, Stephanie (Johnny) Gray-Singleton of Ocean Springs, MS; her dear friend, Lisa Chambers of Houston; a brother, J. D. Blocker; prized nieces and nephews: LaQuita Cooper, Marjon (Dominique) Jones, Cornesha Cooper, Mardaireus Jones, Devon Cooper, Marjiya Jones, all from Jackson, Mississippi, Enola Frank, Enisha (Courtney) Davenport and Elaina Frank, all of Houston and great nieces, Tristan Jones and Carmen Davenport; God baby CaVosany Gray-Mack of Ocean Springs, MS; and an aunt, Sarah Gilliard; valued cousins, in-laws, students, dear friends, colleagues, other relatives and her caring, warm church family.
