Rene was born in Houston, Texas on October 17, 1965 to his parents Rigoberto and Maria Gonzalez. He was the youngest of 6 children and he leaves behind his wife, Serena Gonzalez; mother, Maria R Gonzalez, sister and brother-in-law Elizabeth and Donald Linell, sister and brother-in-law Maria Elva and Joe Gongora, sister Ruth Victoria Gonzalez, sister Lucina Gonzalez, sister and brother-in-law Leticia and Bill Smallwood; nephew, Felix Edward Rabago; niece and her spouse Jennifer and Jamie Price, niece and her spouse Veronica and Niki Saukam, as well as many other friends and relatives he was close with.
Rene first met his best friend and wife, Serena Marie Gonzalez, in 1999, and the Lord brought them together in love on December 26, 2009. They married on February 12, 2011, and had their marriage blessed in the Catholic Church on May 5, 2017. They remained together until his sudden passing, celebrating their ninth anniversary together the day before.
Rene was a very enthusiastic, much loving man. He loved his family, friends, and especially his mother and wife with all his heart. He was a comforter and well known for his strong affection and BIG bear hugs. He loved sports, whether it was Football, Baseball or Basketball, you could catch him watching a game every week. His favorite was Baseball however, cheering for his home team the Houston Astros. When they won the championship in 2017, he was so very happy and cheered louder than anyone else could. He truly had deep roots in Baseball. He was very passionate about food and cooking as well. He always tinkered with his recipes, trying to perfect them. His favorite dish was a classic Spaghetti and meat sauce. One of his favorite things to do was get together with family and have a big barbeque. His specialty was barbeque chicken. He had a deep appreciation for music as well. You could ask him anything about nearly any song, and he would have an answer. In his young life, he was confirmed into the Catholic Faith via the sacrament of Confirmation. He drifted away in the following years until he met Serena. It was then he was brought closer to the Lord once again, going to church, attending mass, and getting their marriage blessed. He knew God looked after him and his family, and was always grateful for that as he continued to pray for The Lord's love and protection. The family will receive friends on Monday, February 24, 2020 from 2-3PM with Funeral Service beginning at 3PM in the Grand Chapel of Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home.
