On February 5, 1951, a bright eyed baby boy was born to Aaron and Ida Bell Johnson in Houston, Texas. They named him Reginald Van Johnson, but he was affectionately called "Red."Early in his childhood, Reginald moved to Lake Charles, Louisiana to live with his paternal grandmother. He later moved back to Houston where he graduated from Booker T. Washington High School and went on to attend Laney College in Oakland, California.He married Elizabeth (Betty) Webster and their special friendship has remained strong throughout these last 54 years. He was employed at Hermann Hospital in the Texas Medical Center, where he remained until his health caused him to retire in 2017.Reginald joined Mt. Sinai Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Samuel J. Gilbert, Sr. and remained faithful and committed under the pastor Dr. S. J. Gilbert II. He served on the Usher Board and faithfully attended services until ill health forced him to slow down. Even with his health challenges and while in hospice, he found a way to faithfully send in his tithes.He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Aaron and Ida Bell Johnson, siblings; Illa Smith and brothers; Uriel Johnson and Aaron Johnson, Jr.Those left behind to cherish his memories are; Elizabeth Vereen, siblings, Donna Johnson, Iler Guillory, Shelia Canada, Ollie Johnson, Sharon Johnson, Prince Johnson, Charles Johnson, Edward Bradshaw and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
