Raynell was born November 19, 1944, in Lake Jackson, Texas to Ola Fay Blackmon Lee and Grady Clem Lee. She was a 1963 graduate of Brazosport High School and a 1967 graduate of Abilene Christian University with a degree in Home Economics and Secondary Education. While there, she spent a semester perfecting the art of making pie crusts, a skill that blessed everyone around her, especially at the holidays. She was a skilled gourmet, and a relaxed and gentle hostess. She didn’t just create delicious meals, but an atmosphere of love and playful humor where everyone was welcome.
Raynell worked in many fields throughout her life, and they all revolved around hearth and home. From Residential Construction Superintendent to Interior Designer to Real Estate Agent, she was a consummate professional. She enjoyed working with people.
In her later years, she found great strength in her faith in Christ. She became an avid gardener, attracting hummingbirds and butterflies by the hundreds to her backyard. She settled comfortably into the role of “Nee Nee”, spoiling her grandbabies with unconditional love, attention, and baked goods.
Her beauty, sharp wit, and calm demeanor were her defining characteristics. She was a kind and gentle listener. She offered advice without recrimination or judgement. She knew how to make others feel loved and accepted.
Raynell was preceded in death by her parents and brother, James Wendall Lee as well as her son and daughter-in-law, Wade Lee Calvert and Courtney Kreitz Calvert. She is survived by he sister-in-law Donna Spears Lee, her son Jefferey Miles Calvert and wife Mia Doan Calvert, her daughter Holly Calvert Evans and husband Jason Robert Evans, and seven grandchildren: Reese, Carly and Tanner Evans, Peyton and Emily Calvert, and Lainey and Charley Calvert.
Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of her life at the Forest Park Funeral Home in Houston on Saturday, February 18th at 2:00pm. She will be buried in the Bald Prairie Church of Christ cemetery alongside 5 generations of her family.
