Raul (“Roy”) was born on June 25, 1935 in Smithville, Texas to Baltazar & Maria Ramon. He moved to Houston, Texas with his parents and siblings on July 4, 1944. He attended John Marshall Junior High, where he met the love of his life and wife of 65 years, Cruz Lopez Ramon. He graduated from Jefferson Davis High School in 1954.
He lived a life full of love, dedication, and service. A proud veteran of the United States Army, he served his country with honor and distinction as a Radar Operator on a Nike Missile battery in Ft. Lawton (Seattle, WA) from 1955 to 1957. Following his military service, he continued to demonstrate his commitment to the community by working for the U.S. Postal Service, from which he retired after 42 years of dedicated service.
Raul was not only a hardworking and honorable man but also a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather (“bisabuelo”). He is preceded in death by his parents, Baltazar & Maria Ramon; his brothers, Ruben Ramon, Robert Ramon, Elisa Ramon Martinez, and Mary-Helen Ramon Salinas. He is survived by his childhood sweetheart and loving wife of 65 years, Cruz Lopez Ramon; children, Adrian Ramon, Albert Ramon & partner Janie Polo, Patricia Curry & husband Joseph “Edward” Curry; grandchildren, Elissa Ramon, Kristen Caillier & husband Christopher Caillier, Jessica Ramon, Dorathy Ramon, and Alejandro Ramon; great-grandchildren, Billy Swinney, Cody Gould, Aiden Nations, Joseph Raul Caillier, Maggie Caillier, and Daniel Davis; sister, Raquel Bateman; lap-dog “Snoopy”; many nieces & nephews, and self-proclaimed “adopted” grandchildren, all of whom loved him dearly.
His family was his greatest pride, and he always took joy in spending time with them: camping, traveling (be it a road trip or jet-setting to exciting cities like Ashville, Seattle, and Chicago), and designing & building numerous wood-working projects. Most importantly, he leaves behind cherished memories to all people with whom he crossed paths.
He will be remembered for his smile, gentleness, love of the Houston Astros, and his unwavering support for his loved ones. His legacy of love and dedication will live on in the hearts of his family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made in Raul’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association Southeast Texas Chapter.
