Minister Preston Leigh Garrett III was born August 30, 1950 to Ada Marie Haynes Garrett and Calvin Jonathan Garrett in Houston, Texas. He was the second eldest child and the oldest son. He walked in this role proudly. Preston was always a stand out leader who grew up amongst loving family and friends in the South Park/Sunnyside area of Houston, Texas, where he met and married his high school sweetheart, Sandra Kaye Powell Garrett. Together, they began to build the foundation of a wonderful family to include two amazing sons and an amazing daughter. Living a life dedicated to serving others, they diligently served on ministries together in various churches throughout the city, as youth pastors and ministers. They were eager to always spread wisdom, knowledge in spirit and truth. For decades, he was a very loyal member to New Light Christian Center Church and most recently served as assistant Pastor at Mountain of Faith Christian Center Church alongside one of his dearest friends. His love for God, his wife, horses, and his family were things that he cherished most about life. His life’s work spanned from draftsman to that of a dedicated peace officer for Houston Community College. A loving, devoted, providing husband of 45 years, a caring and involved father and grandfather, a superb big brother, and amazing cousin/uncle who was more than willing to share God’s word, extend grace, and share anything else he could part with in love and grace to all.
Preston was preceded in death by his loving wife, Sandra Garrett; his amazing son, Emmitt Garrett; his phenomenal parents, Ada Marie and Calvin Garrett; and his amazingly kind and caring older sister, Brenda Garrett-Wooten.
Left to cherish in his very rich, plentiful, and honorable memory, his loving children, son, Elliott K. Garrett and wife, Hisae Garrett; his daughter, Rachael M. (Garrett) Patrick and husband, Ernest Patrick; two amazing and intelligent granddaughters, Sidney Garrett and Madisyn Patrick; and amazing loving grandson, Ernest Joshua Patrick IV; amazing brothers, Calvin Garrett, Michael Garrett, and Raymond Garrett; and a host of wonderful loving nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and loved ones.
