I have so many wonderful memories of Polo from our friendship of over thirty years. There is no one like Polo. I remember when he told me that he would own Post Oak Grill one day…and he did! He was extremely loyal and kind with a big heart. He encouraged all with his success story and his trials along the way. He told his employees to set goals: see themselves at the next higher rung of the ladder. He was a man of his word. He started the careers of many cooks, waiters, chefs, owners, managers and others. His legacy will live on. My condolences to all.

My deepest condolences to Jose and the Becerra family, Polo was a excellent chef and most of all a man with integrity, I was a Alabama girl , who he hired and taught me how to work in his establishment, he was strict , and very Blount , but he also was a loyal friend who was good to me and my children,, I’m so grateful that I was able to be apart of his life .. During my time at BHP my colleagues and I congregated at POG very often and Polo always treated us royally - just as he conducted his restaurant.  I count many celebratory dinners on many personal and business occasions at Post Oak Grille and treasure them even more so now. Please accept my earnest prayers for comfort.

I spent so many years being a part of Polo's world at Post oak grill as an entertainer. We spent many a night talking about the philosophies of life and owning a restaurant. He was a man a few words but exhumed a great presence wherever he was. I will miss coming in to the bar area and seeing him sitting in the corner with his watchful eye making sure his dream was a reality.  💙

Mis condolencias a la Familia Becerra que Dios tenga en su Gloria al Chef Polo ya que de el aprendimos muchos en especial un dicho que nunca olvidare que el siempre decia  ,cuando eres cosinero piensa que eres el chef y cuando un dia llegues a lograrlo ahora piensa que eres el dueño solo asi lograras tus sueños y grasias a esas palabras pienso que ahora algunas personas eatamos viviendo en nuetras vidas estos sueños que cuando uno se lo propone lo logra  yo tube la oportunidad de trabajar de 1998 Asta 2008 y de todo corazon  grasias  CHEF POLO que Dios lo tenga en su Gloria 

First and foremost I send my thoughts and prayers to Polo’s beloved family and friends..although I started working there for 3 months and had to move to California, the love and hustle in this restaurant is like no other. I believe everyone felt that because of Polo’s presence. I pay so much respect to Polo for how strong he was, even if I knew him for a short period of time. He will be missed because I looked up to him, in my own journey to become a chef. He was a little intimidating but it always came from a good place. I know he touched many hearts and he will be so missed. I want to say thank you to the POG family for allowing me to have had an opportunity to be apart of an amazing and funny work place. I hope Polo is smiling down and happy that he knows how loved and respected he is. Prayers to everybody, God bless you all!!

So sad to hear that Polo had passed away. He was a most generous  man. He provided lunches for senior citizens who were sponsored  by the Houston Chapter of the Hispanic Council on Aging. He did this selflessly   for several  years ,  providing high quality   nutritious  meals for 700+ seniors who were attending  a yearly health fair.
I will forward  be grateful   for his friendship, his strength of character, and support   of Hispanic senior citizens .

We have great memories of Chef Polo, especially during the New Year’s Eve Parties; he had always a warm welcome for us, and every time it was a joy to talk to him.   He made a great difference in his business and the community.  Our deepest condolences to his family, and to all his family at Post Oak Grill.  Chef Polo created and enjoyable place, not only with excellent food, but also with sincere friendship

We had so many good times together will always keep those good memories in my hearth

I will always remember Polo's "signature" big friendly-and strong!-abrazo which he gave to friends and regular customers alike when they came into the Post Oak Grill.  A big warm smile went with it, of course.  In recent months after he became ill, he was still at the restaurant every time I stopped in, and the big smile was always there.  We will miss you my friend.  You made the American dream happen for yourself and for so many of your loyal employees, who  with worked with you for decades.

Polo was someone I could always count on. When my family was coming here from Mexico he told me: "Go to the safe and take as much money as you need to get them here". 
I was a long time friend and employee: I quit or was  fired many times and came back every time. Polo was qenuine, he was real and I loved him for that. 
Polo, I will see you in Heaven.

I spent many enjoyable hours at the Post Oak Grill.  When Polo's Signature opened, I was there for the opening.  Polo was a hard working man, a credit to his profession and to our community.  I enjoyed his company and I am sorry he is gone.  

Tengo de conocer a Polo, desde el Julio del 2005, cuando llegue a Houston. 

Entre aquel verano, hasta octubre del 2006, cuando al fin hice mi debut en Televisa, fueron búsquedas eternas, y fallidas de empleo. 

No puedo contar las veces que Polo, no solo me levantaba el animo para seguir adelante, pero sabiendo q no tenia lana para una comida decente, me invitaba a comer a su Post Oak. 
Esas meriendas, cenas, de comida, insisto decentes, no solo me quitaron el hambre, sino q me levantaban el animo. Me hacian olvidar lo desempleado que estaba y sobre todo, Me daban Fe que no estaba solo. 

Casi dos decadas despues, mi amigo es parte integral de lo ha sido mi carrera y exito en la TV.  Este video es apenas una, de la media docena de veces que lo saque al aire en los espacios informativos de Televisa. 

Lo extrañare, pero se que no se ha ido, ni se ira. 

Me da gusto que ya no sufra de los males médicos que lo acosaron, y que ya no este solo los Domingos viendo la tele en el Post Oak; donde lo acompañe algunas veces y discutíamos las noticias de la semana. 

Me da gusto que ya estes pleno, feliz, sano y en paz, ahora, cocinándole a Dios en su mesa. 

Nunca te olvidare querido hermano, ni Mexico o Houston, tampoco. 
Presente estas en cada nota, en cada historia, en cada cobertura.

Gracias por todo, Polo. Sin ti, no seria lo que soy yo Hoy. 


I always greeted “Chef” by his government name “Polo.” He always greeted me as “JJ.” My birth certificate reads “James” and I am known by most as “Jay.”

After going to Post Oak Grill many times, I would see Polo but we never acknowledged each other. One day I walked up to him and asked “Are you the owner?” I had never paid any attention to the fact that his face was plastered everywhere (even on the food delivery vans). Polo initially seemed skeptical of me, especially since I took multiple photos of each meal I ordered. Perhaps, he thought I was a food critic.

One day Polo walked up to me from behind and held my shoulder and said, “How are you JJ?” That is when I knew his heart. He always asked about my mother who had recently undergone surgery. He never ever failed to ask about her. He never failed to ask how I was. Polo was sincere about helping in whatever way that we may have wanted or needed.

I would sometimes go to Post Oak Grill earlier in the day and sit with Polo while he watched the news. He would ask if I had heard any breaking news about everything from the war in Ukraine to the death of Queen Elizabeth. Because of our differences in language and speech, he sometimes didn’t understand what I was saying, as I   sometimes didn’t understood what he was saying. Still, we understood each other. It was clear to me that Polo had an enormous amount of love for his family, friends, and employees. I witnessed Polo’s absolute love and loyalty to his team over and over and over again at Post Oak Grill.

I am fortunate and blessed to have experienced Polo.

Un hombre trabajádor rudo fuerte u altanero pero siempre con un corazón enorme y dispuesto a ayudar en cualquier ser humano amigo o conocido que lo necesita.
A su corrido puedo agregar de las mujeres consentido y de sus amigos querido
Un hombre que aprendió a partir de cero
Que logró llegar primero 
Gracias amigo por el tiempo compartido por la buena convivencia por tu amistad por tu presencia donde estés se el juez supremo pondrá la balanza a tu favor por que en lo que insiste fuiste el mejor.

Polo, was such a fun, loving & giving person. He made you feel very special on any given day or event. He was a hard worker, always making sure everyone was taken care of. I'm sorry I won't be celebrating my 60+ Birthday with you this year, it would've been 15 years! Bless your loving soul. 

Aside from the restaurant and his family, Polo's other love was his little ranch, the cows and especially his horses .  I took this the day I went to get pictures for the insurance company.     It was my pleasure to have been his insurance 'girl"  for many years .    His heart was so generous,  and he loved feeding people.  I would take him my homemade cookies and pumpkin butter during the holidays.  He wouldn't share the cookies but often used the pumpkin butter in one of his "specials".  Polo , you will be missed by soo many people and that is a the mark of a life well lived.

May you rest in peace, enjoyed knowing you and seeing you at Post Oak Grill over the years. You will be missed.

Your passing has left our family very emotional. My father, Nasrullah Khan, and you had a very special relationship. It's the one friendship I think my father had that made him feel love, proud, and feel seen. He appreciated you and your beautiful friendship so much. 

Moreover, you and your restaurant have been one of our family's favorite places to visit in Houston. We held my high school graduation dinner there. I brought my in laws there after I got married. Luckily, while you were still in good spirits, my parents, brother, sister in law, niece and nephew, husband, children, and myself all game to see you and have dinner at your place. You so graciously gave us the private room and we had one of the most special dinners there. Thank you for your constant generosity, love, and passion. You and your restaurant have been at the center of some of my life's biggest occasions and I'll never forget that.
