Philip Malcolm Peterson passed away on Monday, the 17th of January 2011, at the age of 64. He was born in Houston, Texas, at St. Joseph’s Infirmary on the 28th of June 1946. He was predeceased by his parents Katherine MacDonald Peterson and Erik Georg Peterson.
Philip was an enthusiastic supporter of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, most particularly the International Committee’s Grub Gang. Philip found classical music soothing and generously supported the Houston Symphony, of which his great aunt was a founding trustee. Philip’s generosity was spread far and wide. He was a joyful philanthropist and relished being President of the MacDonald-Peterson Foundation.
Philip maintained lifelong friendships from River Oaks Elementary to Lamar High School and continuing thru his college years at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, where he was a proud member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity.
Philip was an adventurous traveler and numismatist from childhood. He loved traveling the world, skydiving and scuba diving.
Philip is survived by his wife, Fran Fawcett Peterson; daughter, Kristin Peterson Clarke and her husband Jeff; son, Roderick Nicholas Peterson; brother, Erik G. Peterson and his wife Georgia.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to his housekeeper, Flora Castro, for her loving care.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o’clock this afternoon until seven o’clock this evening, Thursday, the 20th of January, in the Library of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
A funeral mass is to be offered at two o’clock in the afternoon on Friday, the 21st of January, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 3617 Milam Street in Houston, where Fr. Juan Torres, O.P., Parochial Vicar, is to serve as celebrant.
Honored to serve as pall bearers are Joel Kilpatrick, Al Marciante, Patrick Mikhail, Terry Richard, Michael Fogel and Tim Oxley. Serving as honorary pall bearers are Jerry Richard, Nathan Cabaniss, Ron Bell, Dick Tottenham, Ron Minsk, Glen Williams, Ian Marsac, John Fawcett, Stewart Stanuell III, Harry Gendel and Dan Harrison.
Immediately following the service, all are invited to greet the family during a reception to be held at a venue to be announced during the service.
The family will gather for a private committal service at a later date.
