Phan held a Master’s Degree in Spanish Literature from Southern Illinois University. She worked for Sonat and Damson Oil Corporations as an Oil Field Records Manager. She was also employed by the Our Lady of LaVang Catholic Community Church Office. She served many of the parishioners of Our Lady of LaVang in various capacities including delivering the Body of Christ to the sick and teaching English as a Second Language (ESL), which led many of those individuals to the goal of receiving their citizenship of The United States of America.
Phan was preceded in death by her father Mr. Thuc Lang Nguyen, mother Mrs. Qui Thi Dao, her brother-in-law and sister Mr. Nhan and Diep LeVan and her uncle Mr. Hoach Huu Dao.
Special thanks to the loving care her spouse, Karl Levi Johnson III gave to her every day she needed care after her Parkinson’s and dementia diagnosis along with the doctor’s, nurses, and other healthcare professionals at Willowbrook Methodist Hospital and the Willowbrook Brookdale Skilled Nursing Facility.
