Peter was joined in holy matrimony to Gertrude Phelps on June 17, 1989, more than 32 years ago. From their union came two sons and one daughter. God considers marriage to be an agreement between a husband and a wife as well as a commitment between the couple and Him. He expects us to dedicate ourselves to the relationship and to recognize our responsibilities, duties, and loyalties both to our spouse and to God. The scriptures teach us how to do that. They both lived up to God’s expectations even until his last day on earth.
Peter was compassionate about sharing the gospel with everyone he knew and met. If you asked him for advice or direction, his response was always biblical and Christ-centered. He was not ashamed of the gospel. His latter days on earth, he had a passion to help men, specifically young men, to teach them their role in what God expect of them. He knew his purpose was to lead the lost to Christ. He had a smile that radiate the room and a very humble spirit. He loved and enjoyed being around family.
Peter was preceded in death by his mother Aletess LaRose and one sibling Nick Scales.
He leaves to cherish his memory: Wife Gertrude Scales; his father Burnell Scales Sr (Stepmother Veronica).; two sons: Joshua Phelps (Suni), Peter Oliver Scales Jr.; two daughters: Cierra Scales and Candace Gabriel. Five Siblings: Burnell Scales Jr. (Michelle), Darren Scales (Denise), Nicole Charles (Late Cornell), Maleica Taylor (Demond), and Witne Perkins (Gabe). My wonderful grandchildren include Jakai Phelps, ‘Alo Dunbar, and Baby Phelps on the way. He also leaves a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, sister/ brothers-in-law and friends.
