Pete grew up in Shiner, Texas working alongside his father on the family farm. He entered the United States Navy in 1945. After his discharge, he moved to Houston, to attend Baldwin Business College. Upon graduation, he worked as an accountant in Downtown Houston. He also owned a full-service Texaco station near Downtown Houston. During this time, he met the love of his life, Dorothy.
They were married at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Schulenburg, Texas on June 20, 1953. They settled in Northwest Houston and became the owners of a custom window covering business in West University. Pete and Dorothy worked side-by-side for 45 years at Alshade Interiors until their retirement in 2001. They had 4 children, 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Pete was a founding parishioner of St. Ambrose Catholic Church. He was active in the St. Ambrose Men's Club, the St. Ambrose Golden Youth Organization, and the Lodge 88 SPJST Men's Club. First and foremost, Pete enjoyed spending time with his family. He believed in owning station wagons and family vacations. Dancing was a favorite pastime. He taught all of his daughters how to polka and waltz. He square danced for over 30 years and instilled a love of humor in all of us. He also became quite the web surfer in the last few years, enjoying Facebook and Google. He found an online 24 hour polka station that kept him dancing. He leaves behind a legacy of honesty, integrity and hard work.
