Penny was born on September 8, 1947 in Stillwater, OK to Jerold and Jo Blair. She graduated from Charles Page high school in Sand Springs and attended college at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah. She married Richard, an Air Force pilot in 1970, and thereafter lived on an air force base in San Bernardino, California, where they enjoyed camping and hiking in the mountains.
Penny and Richard moved to Houston, Texas in 1976, and started a family. They raised two children, Brian and Heather, and several Cocker Spaniels over the years named Pepper, Cinnamon, Maggie, and Sophie. Penny worked for 35 years as an OB/GYN secretary at Baylor College of Medicine.
Penny loved taking family trips to visit her parents and siblings during the holidays, and also traveling to Big Bend, Enchanted Rock, and other hiking and campgrounds in Texas. Penny was an avid window shopper and loved to accessorize. Shoes, purses, and jewelry were her trademarks. She enjoyed the Hallmark channel, Sunny 99.1 radio station, and a wide array of music favorites such as jazz saxophone by Kenny G, classical piano by Yanni, and Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Penny also loved to dance. She ballroom danced with her husband and won several dancing competition awards.
For the last several years, Penny struggled with Parkinson’s and dementia but was cared for with great love and attention from many, including her family, neighbors, and most especially Elizabeth Swenson, Elaine Kiehler, Sylvia Bratxon, and Bridgette Stoute, her ever devoted caregivers and true friends.
Penny is remembered always as an easy going individual, loving and caring mother, and a silly girl who loved to smile, laugh, and giggled at all things. Penny is forever in our hearts.
