Peggy Smith Taylor passed away on the 24th of February 2010, from complications related to Alzheimer’s disease. She was born on the 13th of December 1925, in Sour Lake, Texas and was preceded in death by her husband Bernard A. Taylor and her parents, Thomas C. and Nell Wilkey Smith.
Growing up in Houston on Rice Boulevard in West University Place, Peggy graduated from Lamar High School. She and her husband lived in Casper, Wyoming and in Midland, Texas before returning to Houston in 1966.
With the heart of a servant, Peggy was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Houston for many years where she was involved with the Stephens’ Ministry and the Womens’ Rebecca Circle. She volunteered for many years at the Guild Resale Shop on Dunlavy. She was an avid collector of antiques and old things. She loved country music. Peggy and her husband, Bernard were members of Lakewood Yacht Club where she served on numerous committees and was the Ladies Association President in 1977.
Peggy was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her sons, Richard C. Taylor of Hot Springs, Arkansas, daughter-in-law Stephanie Suman Taylor of Houston, and Thomas B. Taylor and wife Marsha of Houston; two grandsons Thomas Christopher Taylor of Austin and Jason David Taylor (La Treece) of Houston, and great grandchild Gabrielle Jean Taylor. She is also survived by her two sisters, Tommy Ann Corpening of Fort Worth Texas and JoDel Volick of La Grange, Texas, her nieces Linda Koby (Paul), Lou Salazar, Melissa Corpening and her nephews A.V. “Scottie” Corpening Jr. (Shawn) and Joseph Corpening. Special thanks to Peggy’s friend and caregiver, Nancy Sparks.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o’clock in the afternoon until seven o’clock in the evening on Friday, the 26th of February, in the Parlor of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
The memorial service is to be conducted at half-past noon on Saturday, the 27th of February, in the Chapel of First Presbyterian Church, 5300 Main Street, where the Rev. Dr. William Heston, Senior Associate Pastor, is to officiate.
Immediately following the service, all are invited to join the family for a reception at a venue to be announced during the service.
Prior to the service, the family will have gathered for a private graveside and interment service at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.
In lieu of customary remembrances, contributions in memory of Mrs. Taylor may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association, 2242 West Holcombe Boulevard, Houston, TX, 77030.
