Pauline (Polly) Faye Stoy Floyd was born in Crandall, TX on August 23, 1926, the youngest child of Thomas Jefferson Stoy and Minnie Bernice Selby Stoy. She passed away on May 24, 2016. Polly was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend and we will miss her so much. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Franklin Floyd and her son, Mark Franklin Floyd; a brother, Arthur Monroe Stoy and two sisters, Winnie Lucille (Lucy) Stoy Mings and Lottie Lorraine (Bea) Stoy Parks. She is survived by her son, Timothy (Tim) James Floyd and his wife, Martha Brown Floyd; her daughter Paula Floyd Lawson and her husband Guy Lawson; and her son, Jeff Pearson Floyd; her grandchildren, Marcus Floyd and his wife, Lisa Mullin Floyd, Micah Floyd and his wife Courtney Teichelman Floyd, Bethany Lawson, Greg Floyd, Audrey Lawson Madill and her husband, Jacob Madill, James Floyd, Ben Lawson and Evan Floyd; her great-grandchildren, Christopher Floyd, Cathryn Floyd, Morgan Floyd, Mia Madill, Samuel Madill and Carter Floyd.
Polly grew up on a farm in North Texas. Later in life, she entertained her children and grandchildren with stories of childhood on the farm where her father grew corn for making popcorn while her mother taught at a local school. The family moved to Dallas in 1941, where Polly graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1942. She attended North Texas Agricultural College (Now University of Texas at Arlington) where she earned a degree in Home Economics. While in college Polly discovered her love of dance and became a member of a Can-Can dance group, performing for the USO. During this time she met her future husband, James (Jim) Floyd, who had joined the Navy and was in Arlington for training. Throughout the remainder of World War II, Polly and Jim continued their courtship through letters while he commanded a troop transport ship in the South Pacific. They were married upon his return in 1946. Settling in Houston, Texas, they raised four children, Tim, Mark, Paula and Jeff. Polly enjoyed cooking, homemaking and her rose garden. Jim and Polly were involved in their children’s many activities, their 42 Club and in St. Stephen’s United Methodist Church.
When Jim passed away at the age of 49, Polly earned a nursing degree and embarked on new career, working with new mothers and in the newborn nursery at Memorial Northwest Hospital (now Memorial Hermann Northwest). Polly continued to be active in St Stephen’s Church, working on committees, volunteering for Vacation Bible School, enjoying trips and parties with the “Solitaire’s” group and taking line-dancing classes. In 2012, she moved to the Village at Woodlands Waterway, where she made new friends and enjoyed bingo, jigsaw puzzles, exercise class and, of course, dancing. The family will receive friends, Friday, May 27, 2016 5pm – 8pm at Heights Funeral Home. The funeral is scheduled for Saturday at St. Stephen’s United Methodist Church, 2003 W 43rd, St., Houston, Texas 77018. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
