Paul Yan-Po Ngan was born on October 22, 1926, with an ancestral lineage from the town of Nam Hoi in the Guangdong Province of China. He grew up in Hong Kong where he met and married his sweetheart Stella in 1949. Paul and Stella raised their family in Hong Kong until 1976 when they emigrated to the United States. He passed away on August 25, 2022, at the age of 95.
Paul was a devoted Christian. He was a member of Hong Kong China Congregational Church where he was baptized and served as Deacon/Treasurer. After moving to the United States, he attended Houston Chinese Church in Houston Texas.
Paul was an Australian Chartered Accountant and a Fellow Australian Chartered Accountant while working in Hong Kong, and became a Certified Public Accountant after he moved to the United States. In Hong Kong, he was a financial officer responsible for all accounting and treasury functions at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) from 1964 to 1979. He was also a superintendent in the Hong Kong Auxiliary Police Force from 1960 to 1975. After he emigrated to the US in 1979, Paul held positions at the Heng Seng Bank in New York city, at the Northrop University in Los Angeles, and at SERS Jobs for Progress, a non-profit organization in Houston, Texas until his retirement in 2000. Paul enjoyed singing. He was a choir member in various churches and even took up formal baritone singing lessons from renowned teacher Lin Le Chang.
Paul is survived by his eldest son Michael and his wife, Jeannie; second eldest son Steve and his wife Angela; and his daughter Jean. Paul is also survived by his granddaughters Amy and her husband, Mun-Wah; Emily and her husband, Amos; and Stephanie and her husband Earvin. Further, Paul is survived by his great-grandsons Andrew, Christopher, and Charles as well as his great-granddaughter Amelia. Paul will be missed immensely, and he will never be forgotten by those who were touched by his grace and love.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2022, at 11:00 am at the Memorial Oaks Funeral Home and Cemetery at 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77079.
