Paul grew up in Joplin, Missouri and graduated from Joplin High School. He attended the University of Oklahoma and Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he earned a Master of Architecture.
Paul married Linda Anne (Young) on August 24, 1968, in Springfield, Missouri, followed by a reception in the Young family’s apple orchard. They moved to Boston in 1972 for Paul’s education, and upon graduation, they celebrated with an extensive European tour. Together they had two children, Ryan and Aron, whom Paul taught both to drive at incredibly young ages on the tarmac at the former Andrau Airpark.
Paul began his architecture career with the esteemed The Architects’ Collaborative (TAC) in Boston. After moving to Houston, he formed PDH+ Associates in 1982. Paul dedicated his career to architecture and was responsible for designing projects across the United States, Europe, and Southeast Asia. Paul was a proud member of the American Institute of Architects and the Texas Society of Architects.
Paul is survived by his loving wife Linda; sons Ryan and wife Katherine of Houston, and Aron of Austin; his talented and active grandchildren Annie, Maggie, and Bobby; his brother Gary and wife Eva; and nephews Brandon and Jeffrey.
The family would like to express their sincerest gratitude to Eva Flukinger, Paul’s right-hand architect at PDH+A, for her indispensable work, longtime friendship, and sincere loyalty.
A memorial service for Paul Dean will be held Thursday, August 10, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, followed by a catered reception from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
