Paul Steven Audish was born on August 8, 1950, at St. Joseph Hospital in Houston, Texas. He was the third child of Doris Jane Brotherton-Audish and Michael Wilson Audish, both of whom preceded him in death.
Paul accepted Christ at a young age and was a member of Parkway Church. He attended Stephen F. Austin High School and later graduated from the Houston Police Academy. He began his law enforcement career in the Marshal Division and later transferred to the Houston Municipal Courts. In 2006, Paul honorably retired after 22 years of dedicated service to the city he loved.
After retirement, Paul embraced his creative side. He found joy in woodworking, welding, building custom street rods, and crafting bicycles. He was affectionately known as “Uncle Stretch” for his uncanny ability to bend, stretch, and mold bike frames like no one else. His love of all things mechanical—computers, generators, power washers, you name it—kept his mind sharp and his hands busy. He often said, “I can fix anything but a broken heart.”
Paul was first married to the late Joy Audish and had one daughter, Nikki Audish. From his second marriage to Mary Audish, came his daughter, Andrea Renee Audish. In 1996, he met Betty Carmen Audish, whom he married in 1998 and spent their years traveling around Mexico, sharing a love of culture, food, family, their dogs and adventure, creating beautiful memories.
He especially enjoyed the quiet moments sitting in the backyard, gazing at the mountains with a family that spoiled him on every visit, with good times, laughter, and good food. Constantly challenged by the language barrier, always managed to crack a joke, even if no one understood what he was saying.
Paul will always be remembered for his quick, brutally honest, wise, and sarcastic personality and his bright neon shirts that blinded anyone as soon as he entered the room. Many feel the loss of the funny cousin, the joker, the friend who could bring the house down with laughter, and the uncle who would give you (sometimes unsolicited but well-intentioned) good advice, alongside a joke and a story from the good-old-days.
Paul is survived by his wife, Betty Carmen Audish; his daughters, Nikki Audish and Andrea Renee Audish; his brothers, Carl Michael Audish and Billy Audish; and his cherished dogs, Hilda Lynn and Felipa Rose, who will certainly miss their afternoon naps with him.
He is also loved and will be deeply missed by his extended family of sisters- and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and countless friends.
