Patsy was born to Thelma Brewer Barton and husband, L.B. Barton on the 12th of December 1929, at the family ranch in Falls County, Texas. In 1941 her family moved to Freeport, Texas, where she graduated from Freeport High School in December of 1947. Shortly thereafter, she married Wilbur Evans on the 10th of January 1948, and they started their family in 1954 with the birth of their son, Patrick, followed by the birth of their daughter, Sally in 1957. They lived in Freeport until 1963 and, after a brief stint in Belton, Texas, settled in Houston in 1964. Patsy and Wilbur were happily married until his death in 1982.
Patsy started her professional career in 1966 as a secretary for Republic Steel and worked for 31 years in various positions for several companies, retiring as executive secretary to the general counsel of Panhandle Eastern in 1997, at the age of 67. She felt so blessed to have had so many good years after retirement to do all the things she loved.
Patsy was a talented decorator who gladly shared her knowledge and ability with friends and family. She was also a voracious reader and loved gardening, but first and foremost, Patsy was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.
Patsy was an optimist, never dwelling on the past and lived her life as unto the Lord with selflessness, strength and dignity. Her unconditional love, "a bulwark never failing,” will be cherished forever.
Patsy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wilbur; and sister, Frances "Sis" Metcalf. She is survived and dearly missed by her children, Sally Evans Jones and husband, Doug, Patrick Evans and wife, Joyce; grandchildren, Douglas Jones, Jr. and wife, Tory, Mary Caroline Jones, Kelli Evans Claybrook and husband, John; great-grandchildren, Douglas "Tripp" Jones III, Lucas Angulo, Parker Jones, Cooper Claybrook, Ramsey Claybrook and Millie Claybrook; numerous nieces & nephews; her special cousin Millie Williams, Linda Jones Fabian and husband, Jon; and her closest friend for 57 years, Michelle Newlin.
The family extends special thanks to Dr. Anil Thaker, Gail, and Stacy of Memorial Hermann Hospice, as well as to Kay Olaniyan for the care and attention they gave to Patsy in her final days.
A memorial service is to be conducted at two o'clock in the afternoon on Saturday, the 28th of January 2023, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent grand foyer.
