AKA Pat Middleton
Patrick “Pat” Michael Zink, of Pasadena, Texas, was born to Levita Middleton Vaughn and Leonard Zink on May 29, 1964 in Houston, Texas and departed this life on October 21, 2022.
With the loving help and aid from his family and friends, Pat fought a very aggressive form of cancer with such courage and dignity.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Frank and Ruby Zink and Jack and Pat Middleton.
Patrick earned his Bachelor degree from the University of Houston then continuing on to Webster University for a Master of Human Resources. His quest for excellence had him continue to acquire the Certificate as a Human Resources Professional.
His early employment was most diverse. He drove a school bus along with his grandmother, Ruby Zink for the Spring Branch Independent School District. However, it was his position with Front Gate Guest Relations at Astroworld Theme Park that propelled his career choice and where friendships formed that continued through his lifetime.
After college, Patrick joined Disney World as Manager of Human Resources. Again, friendships and relationships began that were with him throughout the remainder of his life. It was there in Florida that the On Air Radio Personality, Pat Middleton, formed his career in radio began.
When Patrick returned to Texas he accepted a position as Manager of Human Resources for Houston Independent School District. He moved on to National Oilwell Varco as Director of Talent Acquisitions. Most recently he fulfilled the position of Relations Director of KIPP Texas Public Schools.
All the while, for 17+ years, Pat Middleton has been an On Air talent for Cox Media Group and as DJ for 93Q and Legends 97.1.
He has always had the incredible ability to surround himself with opportunities to give back to others, whether volunteering his time on numerous committees at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, judging The Taste of the Town, the Mutton Bustin’ at HLSR, Komen Breast Cancer Research Foundation, or the Snowdrop Foundation. Patrick was known to be the behind scene person and getting things done. His philosophy always being it never mattered who got credit as long as things got done!
Patrick made the world a better place with his unlimited encouragement, a contagious smile, kindness in his heart and a hilarious sense of humor. It was as if he had a sixth sense when people needed him. He always had the perfect words at the perfect time. He had the ability to give the perfect gift, something you didn’t even know you needed but found you really couldn’t live without and if you were lucky you received a jar of his barbeque sauce.
He will be remembered as one of the kindest human beings in this world. Most generous too if you considered his ever replenishing gift closet.
To have been loved by Patrick is one of life’s greatest gifts. His influence will remain in the lives of all who knew him.
He certainly had many hobbies and pleasures, his classic Jeep, cooking, of course MUSIC and THE HOUSTON ASTROS.
But, there were no pleasure or enjoyment he treasured more than being with and spoiling his nieces and nephew – Reagan, Brooklyn and Luke.
Surviving and honoring his memory are his parents Levita Vaughn and Leonard and Debbie Zink. His sister and family, Kristen Barker, his friend and brother-in-law Dave Barker, nieces Reagan and Brooklyn Hardin and his nephew, Luke Barker. His stepbrother and wife, Len and Michelle Vaughn and daughter, Briley Vaughn. Along with the extended family of Aunts, Uncles and cousins that he loved.
The family wishes to express a special thanks and gratitude to his Radio and Rodeo Family along with Chuck and Pam Fimble!
