Patricia Anne Seeley Osborne passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, the 10th of February 2018, with her family by her side and with the love, grace, and dignity that was the hallmark of her life. She made a two-and-a-half-year stoic effort to conquer the cancer that finally consumed her.
Pat was born on the 9th of May 1934, in San Antonio. She spent her formative years there, until her father’s business caused them to transfer to Baytown where she spent her senior year of high school. Pat attended Mary Baldwin University in Virginia for her freshman year and then transferred to The University of Texas at Austin for the balance of her education. Pat was a member and President of the Chi Omega Sorority during the time she was in school at the University. When Pat was studying for her Master’s Degree in History at UT, she met Dee Osborne who was then in Law School at the University. Pat and Dee became very close to each other during that time. After law school, Dee had to fulfill his military obligation and therefore went into the service for two years. During that period, Pat was a teacher in San Antonio. After Dee was discharged in June of 1955, they renewed their relationship and were married six months later. Pat and Dee made their home in Houston where Dee practiced law and pursed his business career and Pat taught school for two years. Early highlights of their married life were the births of two beautiful daughters, Cindy and Shelley. Their daughters’ marriages and birth of grandchildren and great-grandchildren have been other blessed events in Pat and Dee’s lives. Their marriage lasted for 60 years and each year became more important and enjoyable than the last. Pat’s love and devotion was always for her family and she showed it every day. One of her greatest pleasures was to take trips with the entire family and as a result they visited about every place you could think of. A few days before she died, Dee asked her if there was any other place that she would like to have visited. After a short pause she said, “For me there is no place that we missed”.
During Pat’s life she was very involved with a number of charitable and civic organizations. She had a passionate love for Bayou Bend and was one of the first Docents after Miss Ima Hog established her home as a museum. Pat continued her close relationship with Bayou Bend for the rest of her life, working many hours at the museum as a Docent or Trustee and being a part of many of the Bayou Bend sponsored events and activities. Throughout Pat’s life she was also deeply involved with the Houston Ballet which she supported and served as a Trustee until her death. Pat was an avid bridge player- she loved playing with many of her lifelong friends as well as enjoying the challenge of the game. Pat had countless wonderful friends and when you became her friend you were a cherished friend for life.
Not long after Pat and Dee were married they joined St. Luke’s United Methodist Church and it became a major part of their life for over 50 years. Pat was always very active in the Church activities and was particularity involved in the youth program during the time when their children were growing up.
Pat was an incredible person. She was kind, gentle and compassionate toward everyone that she knew. There was not a time in her life when she spoke ill of or belittled anyone. If there are walking angels on this earth she would certainly have been one of them. Her family together with all those who knew and loved her will have a void in their life as she leaves us, but we are all thankful and blessed that she shared her life with us. We will never forget that she loved us all very much and as the epithet on her grave marker says, “Life Flees, Love Stays.”
Pat is survived by her loving husband, Dee Osborne; their daughters, Cindy Osborne Beckham and her husband Bev, Shelley Osborne Vester and her husband Mark; grandchildren Ford Beckham and his wife Belle, Emily Beckham, Blake Sterling Gray and her husband Matthew, Paige Allen Kriegel and her husband Kyle, Jack Vester and Cory Vester; and great-grandson Sterling Winston Gray.
The family would like to thank her caregivers, Sherry Galentine, Margaret Sey, Lili Garza-Hinojosa, Vanessa Young, Latoya Galentine, and Lakisha Galentine for their compassionate and loving care during Pat’s illness.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o’clock in the afternoon until seven o’clock in the evening on Wednesday, the 14th of February, in the parlor and grand foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
A memorial service celebrating her life is to be conducted at 11:00 in the morning on Thursday, the 15th of February, in the Sanctuary of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 3471 Westheimer Road in Houston, where Dr. Tom Pace, Senior Pastor, is to officiate.
Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent fellowship walk.
Prior to the service, the family will gather for a private interment at Glenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that contributions in memory of Pat may be directed to Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens, PO Box 6826, Houston, TX 77265-6826; The Houston Ballet, 601 Preston St, Houston, TX 77002; or to the charity of one’s choice.
