Patricia Ann Welch Kershaw, ”Pat”, “Nina”, age 71, passed away peacefully at Houston Hospice in loving care of her family on March 24, 2020. She was born January 4, 1949, the 1st of 5 children, to Grace Ella Braddock & Vernie Robert “Bob” Welch of Hackberry, Louisiana. Pat graduated Salutatorian, class of 67, at Hackberry High School, and later graduated with an Associate’s degree in Administration at SOWELA Technical College in Lake Charles, La.
Pat permanently moved with her husband, Roland, to Houston, Texas in 1970. She first started working in Houston for Royal Globe Insurance, as an Administrator. In 1978 she adopted a daughter, Caryn Renee. As a wife, and mom she worked and volunteered most of her life. She was a stay at home mom for quite some time, then started working again after her daughter started attending school. She worked in the Spring Branch Independent School District as a secretary and substitute teacher at Meadow Wood and Rummel Creek Elementary . Then later for First Community Credit Union in indirect lending. Pat worked and volunteered at the same time while being a fulltime mother. She was a CCE teacher at Saint Jerome, & Saint Catherine of Siena Catholic Church.
For 23 years Pat was a Water Safety Instructor for The Greater Houston area American Red Cross, volunteered her time teaching swimming lessons in the summertime for the Spring Woods Swim Program. She was a Girl Scout Leader for 9 years and was a 2nd mom to many. She enjoyed fixing hair, reading, arts and crafts, and going camping with her close friends. She supported the troops from 1997-2012, always lending a helping hand and a place to stay.
She loved to travel and visit family and friends. She started volunteering for CMA, and ESP in 1997, and was a Houston Representative for the Counsel of The Arts and founding member of Ovate, Congregation of the Oaks.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Roland Roy Kershaw and by her only child, Caryn Renee Kershaw Morris . She was also the proud grandmother of two grandsons; Edward Teddy Lee Morris II, and Eric Abel Morris. She is also survived by her four siblings; brother Robert, sisters; Verna-Jean, Carol, and Mary.
Pat loved and cherished her family and friends deeply and she will be dearly missed by so many. It brings us peace that she is now with her beloved family and friends in Heaven.
A Memorial Service honoring Pat will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Pat requested that memorial donations be directed to her oldest grandson, Teddy Morris for his college education, P.O. Box 431743, Houston, TX 77243.
