Pat Schulte

Pat Schulte, age 75, died on Thursday, August 18, 2011 in Houston, Texas surrounded by love. While she may have lost the war against lung cancer, she won many battles along the way and was an inspiration to others fighting cancer. “Grandma Pat”, as she was affectionately known by her grandchildren, was born in Lawrence, Kansas on February 27, 1936 to Benedict Joseph Brummel and Regina Josephine Rockers. Pat was predeceased by her parents and her brother, John Brummel. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Gina and Rick Halle and JeriAnne and Phillip Stojanik, her grandchildren, Theresa and Mark Halle and Christopher Stojanik, all of Houston, her brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Judy Brummel of Garnett, Kansas, many nieces and nephews and her precious dogs Tucker and Magoo II. She leaves a host of family, friends and neighbors to celebrate her life!

Pat grew up in Garnett, KS and always had a great affection for animals, particularly dogs. She attended Holy Angels Catholic School and Ursuline Academy where she forged life-long friends. She married in 1957 and her family settled in Houston in the summer of 1969. Pat was fond of the expression “I wasn’t born in Texas, but I got here as fast as I could”, because it described how much she loved all things Texan. Pat found her calling as an office manager for an engineer from Atlanta, Bob Addy, and quickly forged a life-long friendship that was strengthened by the fact that they were both Pisces! Pat retired in 2006 from AAA Asphalt & Paving. Pat also enjoyed planning special events, rooting for the Aggies and the Oilers, C&W dancing on the Westheimer strip, Big Band and jazz music and decorating and remodeling her home.

Pat’s greatest joy in life came from spending time with her family, but most especially, her grandchildren. She relished the preparations that it took to make unique Christmas memories. But Grandma Pat didn’t need a holiday to celebrate, for she had the ability to make the ordinary, extraordinarily special – be it an impromptu picnic at the park, a trip to the dollar store, or a sleep-over. From the time her first grandchild was born, Grandma Pat spent many hours crafting “grandma blankies”, hooded bath towels, and personalized gifts for her grandchildren that were unique and special for each one of them. She did not limit her talents to her grandkids… be it a wedding, new baby, anniversary or a special birthday, Pat could be counted on to create a gift unique to the individual and the celebration.

A memorial service celebrating Pats life will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2011 in Texas Liberty Mausoleum @ Memorial Oaks Funeral Home at 12:30 P.M.
