Patsy Dean Rhymes Gilbreath, 90 years old, of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, the 20th of October 2022. She was born in Jonesboro, Louisiana to William Jennings Rhymes and Vera Ruth Walsworth on the 26th of December 1931.
A daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt, friend, pastor, businesswoman, television host, aspiring writer, pilot, ... but above all these, Pat was one who loved Jesus with all her heart. Anyone who got to know her, knew that.
"Unconditional love" is one way of expressing the way Pat lived her life. You didn't have to gain her love; she loved you from the start. She didn't go around looking for the negative in people; she always saw the good.
Pat was one of the sweetest, nicest people you could ever meet. Gentle in how she approached people; one whose hugs were big; smile was bright, and her presence was that of love. Her absolute love for her Lord was the strongest one might ever see in a person. Pat had a deep passionate love for her Savior. Today, Pat is with Jesus; worshiping and praising Him; her beautiful voice soaring with the angels and the redeemed in heavenly places.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 11 siblings; husband Wesley Benton Gilbreath; son Gordon Jennings Upchurch, and daughter Melinda Kim Hoyer.
Pat is survived by her sister, Jerrie Allen; daughter Pamela Chambers and her husband Fred; daughter Karla Stacey-Hoy, son Phillip Upchurch and his wife Arlene, daughter Lisa Barnette and her husband Gene, and son Bob Upchurch and his wife Leslie. Pat is also survived by Wes’ children: son Lee Gilbreath and wife Mary, daughter Sheree Gilbreath Metoyer, son Wesley Gilbreath, Jr. and wife Lisa, daughter Lisa Horan, son Brett Gilbreath and wife Donna, and Stacie Powell and husband Rick.
Pat is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews on both sides of the family—all of whom she loved dearly.
Acknowledgement of great appreciation - Pat’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Sweet Home Care’s Genet Howard, Alicia Mitchell, and the other caregivers for the compassionate care shown to Pat over the past years. A strong love grew, especially with Genet and Alicia, bonding the three together like mother and daughters.
