On August 15, 1924 Onie Dell Cartwright was born in Spearsville, Louisiana to Luther and Lettie Richard. She was Third of four children born to this union. She moved from Louisiana to Texas at a very young age. She became a member of Damascus Missionary Baptist Church and found employment at Henke & Pillot; she worked several years until Kroger's purchased the grocery chain. She kept her position as a baker and retired from Kroger's Bakery after more than Forty years of service. She is preceded in death by both of her Luther and Lettie Richard, one brother Levell Richard, one sister Lovada Kyle, sons Jessie James Smith and Robert Lee Smith. She is survived by her sister Annie B. Wilson, son Willie James Smith of Houston, Texas, Daughter Gloria Dean Holton of Beaumont, Texas. She is also survived by a host of grandchildren, Great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins co-workers and numerous friends
