Olivia Gonzalez Garza, age 93, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother, was called by our Heavenly Father on February 25, 2012. She is preceded in death by her husband, Felix B. Garza; son, Orlando Garza; her parents, Cruz Gonzalez and Soledad Hernandez; brother, Cruz Gonzalez, Jr. and sisters, Irene Ramirez and Romona Tobias.
Mrs. Garza was born on August 6, 1918 in Bustamante, Mexico. In 1922, she moved with her family to Laredo, Texas where she attended school there. In 1937, she married the late Felix B. Garza and moved to Kingsville, Texas where all her children were born at home. In 1956, the family moved to Houston, Texas and lived in the Oak Forest area where she lived for more than 50 years. One of her greatest joys in her life was to become an American citizen, which happened in 1956. She was an extremely proud to have been married to her husband of 70 years.
She is survived by five children, Felix Garza, Jr. of Orange, California, Amelida Garza of Chihuahua, Mexico, Roberto Garza of Shepherd, Texas, Rosario Reyna of Laredo, Texas and Raul Garza of Sugarland, Texas; three sisters, Margarita Castro, Delia Martinez and Enriqueta Garcia all from Laredo, Texas; 22 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces and friends throughout the United States.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 from 1:00-2:00 p.m. with a Rosary service at 1:30 p.m. with Funeral Services beginning at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Pat H. Foley & Company. She will be laid to rest at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery.
