Olga was born in Portoviejo, Ecuador to Jorge Alberto Pólit and Olga Macias de Pólit on October 25, 1946. Olga married Pablo Antonio Alvarado on March 27, 1982, in Houston, Texas and two children, Pablo and Jose Luis were born from this union. She is a graduate of the Universidad Central de Ecuador with a degree in Economics and moved to Houston, Texas in 1980. In Houston, she worked as the Treasurer for Petro Ecuador and later as a Paraprofessional for the Alief Independent School District.
Olga enjoyed socializing and was adept at maintaining relationships with family and friends, even those abroad despite the distance between them. She enjoyed hosting family gatherings, in particular, Christmas Eve celebrations dressed as Mrs. Clause to bring joy to her grandchildren, whom she dearly loved. Olga was a collector of religious and holiday figurines, cultural dolls, and memories as her ability to recollect past events was unmatched. Olga was actively involved in the Hispanic Ministry of her church and her Catholic faith was central in her life, whether reciting the Novena during the Christmas season or praying the Rosary.
Olga is preceded in death by: her parents, Jorge and Olga; and her siblings, Ricardo Pólit, Jaime Pólit, and Carmen Teran.
Olga is survived by her husband, Pablo Alvarado; her two sons and their wives: Pablo Alberto and Lisa Alvarado, and José Luis and Sandra Alvarado; her siblings: Jorge Pólit, Marcelo Pólit, Laura Vasquez and Fabian Pólit; grandchildren: Alyssa, Camille, and Catalina; brother-in-law, Luis Alvarado; cherished family: Barbara and Julian Pólit, Maria and Gonzalo Lobo, and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews; her many beloved friends, her devoted community of girlfriends from St. Justin Martyr Catholic Church and Collins Elementary School.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Garden Oaks Funeral Home on Friday, February 16, from 5:30 – 8 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Justin Martyr Catholic Church on Saturday, February 17, at 1 PM. All family and friends are welcome to celebrate and remember the life of Olga.
