Och Ngung Yee (also known as Hon Wong), 90, husband of the late Ling Yuk Wong, beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, went home to our Lord on January 5 after a long struggle with kidney failure and congestive heart failure. He was born October 10, 1928 just outside of Canton, China and was the second of 2 boys. After World War II, he immigrated to the United States in December, 1946 at the age of 18, to Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, where he worked as a waiter for his uncle in a Chinese restaurant. He worked hard to save and send money back home to support his mom. In 1952, he was put into contact with, and became pen-pals with, his future wife Ling Tang. In 1953, he traveled to Hong Kong to meet and then married his wife Ling on August 10. They had 3 children, William, Margie and Paul. Throughout the 1950’s, 60’s and early 70’s he continued working as a waiter and then as a cook for several other Chinese restaurants until 1976 when he and his wife became entrepreneurs and opened their own Chinese restaurant in Pittsburgh, “Wong’s Pagoda Inn” which they operated until their retirement in 1989. In 1990, they moved to Sugar Land, Texas where he loved to construct small stools and shelves, enjoyed playing Mah Jong, traveling and getting to know his 7 grandchildren and later his 4 great-grandchildren. He received the Lord as his savior shortly after Hurricane Harvey.
He was preceded in death by his wife Ling, father Hua Li Yee, mother Mei Xiu Wong, and brother De Qun Yee. He is survived by his son William Wong (wife Shirley), granddaughter Jennifer (husband Timothy) and great grandchildren Jack, Elisabeth and Caroline, grandson Stephen (wife Jennifer) and great granddaughter Hannah, and granddaughter Christine; daughter Margie Joe (husband Larry) and grandchildren Jeffrey and Dana; son Paul Wong (wife Betsy) and granddaughters Sarah and Rebekah.
