Neil F. Reed was born in Pineville, Louisiana on January 10, 1936, and died at his home on March 9, 2013 surrounded by family. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Anita; his daughter, Cheryl and her husband, Philip Broder, of Bedford England; his daughter, Lisa, of Houston; his son Eric and his wife, Amy, of Katy; and his five grandchildren, Justin Kooi; Jason Broder, Adam Broder; Kenzington Reed and Keeli Reed.
Neil graduated from Bolton High School in Pineville and attended Louisiana Tech University and Northeast Alabama University. He served 4 years in the United States Army, and was a decorated marksman. It was while stationed in Atlanta that he met Anita. They married in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in August 31, 1963. Over the years, Neil and his family lived in Baton Rouge, New Orleans, and Chattanooga, TN, before finally settling in Houston in 1976.
Neil enjoyed a 33 year career in Houston real estate. He was a licensed broker and a member of the Houston, Texas and National Associations of Realtors. Along with his wife, Anita, he was a partner in Century 21 Preferred Properties, Broker and franchise owner of ERA West Suburban Realtors. In 1997, they opened Realm Real Estate Professionals, which at its peak oversaw 5 offices and 850 agents serving the greater Houston metropolitan area.
Neil was a kind, generous man of integrity, a loving husband, father and grandfather, a leader, friend, music lover and avid LSU Tiger football fan. He was active in his community. He was private about his philanthropic efforts, choosing to do many of his best deeds in a one-on-one atmosphere with little or no credit.
Viewing will be Thursday, March 14th, from 5-8 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway, followed by the funeral service on Friday, March 15, 2013, at 12:30 p.m.
