Mrs. Naomi Terrell Moore died January 24, 2018. She was born January 31, 1915 in Madisonville, Texas. She was the third of five children born to Joe and Fessie Tucker Terrell. Because the Madisonville schools only went to the 10th grade, she moved to Houston, attended and graduated from Jack Yates High School. She was valedictorian of her class and a silver-tongued orator, winning many awards in public speaking. She attained a teacher’s certificate from Houston College and taught kindergarten in the Harrisburg community in Houston. Naomi was baptized when she was nine years old at Shiloh Baptist Church in Madisonville. In her adult Christian walk, she worked in the South Texas District Association, the Lincoln District, and the Independent Missionary Baptist General Association. She was president of Senior Mission at First Ward Baptist Church, New Loyalty Baptist Church, and Damascus Missionary Baptist Church. Sis. Moore was a bonded notary public for the State of Texas. She was a member of the 1st Ward Beautification Committee, hosting teas to raise funds for community functions. She loved gardening, working word puzzles, and learned to play the piano late in life. She was an officer of the Madisonville Colored Marian Anderson Ex Students Association. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ludie Moore Sr. parents, Joe and Fessie Terrell, sister, Ottie Gooden, brothers Lamar Terrell, Roger Terrell, and J.H. Terrell, and niece, Wilma Gooden White. She is survived by sons Ludie Moore Jr. (Sharon) and Homer Ward (Roslyn), 6 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, nephews Lamar Gooden (Carmelita), Walter Gooden, Charles Gooden Sr. (Peggy), niece Joyce Watkins (Maurice), adopted niece Brenda Derouselle, godson Dr. Romanuel Washington Jr. and a host of other relatives and friends.
