Nanette was born in Houston on June 11, 1930, to Lloyd and Dorothy Browning. She met the love of her life, Tommy Nichols, at Jeff Davis High School in Houston. After graduation, she attended Mary Hardin Baylor for a year, before returning to Houston to marry Tommy. They were wed on May 14, 1949, and shared their lives for 62 years, until Tommy passed in 2011.
Once her children were in school, Nanette attended USL in Lafayette, Louisiana, majoring in Education. When Tommy was transferred to Houma, Louisiana, she transferred to Nicholls State in Thibodaux, graduated in 1969, and began teaching elementary school. When Tommy was transferred to Houston, she continued her teaching career there.
Her creative passion was sewing and she made her daughters’ clothes while they were in school. She later began creating beautiful quilts that are cherished by her family.
She is survived by her sister, Lloyd Ann, and brother-in-law, Robert MacMahan, along with her 3 children and their spouses: Susan and Montie Grimes, Sheryl and Eric Duhon, and Lloyd and Tresa Nichols. Among them, they gave Nanette nine grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.
The family invites all who knew Nanette to join them in bidding farewell to her. Visitation is on Tuesday, November 21st at 10 a.m. in the White Chapel at Katy’s First Baptist Church, 600 Pin Oak Road, Katy, Texas, 77494.
