         You are unforgettable, and I will always love & remember you and all your sayings.  It has been 6 years since you entered eternity.  Please keep pouring your prayers to God to bless your family, friends, United States of America and the whole world.

To the Shoemaker Family,
      I cannot believe it has been 5 years since Nancy left us to journey to eternity on July 3.  Her voice, her favorite sayings still echo in the hallways of my memory.  Only she and I would know what "you are in my pew" means.  Unforgettable is her sign-off in all the many letters she wrote me. "Your Soul Sister."  Nancy, I miss you and Kay.  I know you gals are waiting for Bessie and me to join you.  What joy it will be when "The Golden Girls" of Milby are reunited once again! Please pray to the Heavenly Father for your family and friends on earth!

We missed you dearly.  Your favorite expression, "Sorry to be in your pew" has become mine when I interfere with other person's business. I like this practice of reminding your loved ones of your anniversary.  Please continue to pray for your family and friends from your perch in heaven.

Good people like Nancy Shoemaker leave us with wonderful stories and experiences that should be remembered and passed on. Nancy was a good person and a great conversationalist, with a warm and unforgettable smile. I think I can hear her chuckle.
I admired Nancy and her genuinely kind acceptance of people. I shall always cherish our mutual sharing of childhood and adult experiences. When we spoke of challenging times, I always derived the strength to persevere.
My prayer is that each of you will be blessed always by her love and warmth.

Nancy Shoemaker, my mother, was a devoted and loving spouse, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She loved her family with all her heart. She will be proudly looking down on us, as she should be, for a job well done. Thank you Mother for caring so much for all of us!!

Nancy Shoemaker, my grandmother, whom I always knew as “Nanny,” was a kind and guiding soul. She could always offer advice, was always willing to help, and was definitely able to carry a conversation. 

Despite the fact that I grew up 2,000 miles away, Nanny always had a presence in my life. She would call to sing happy birthday, would always buy us new shoes when she visited, and made sure to attend at least one football game a season. 

She was my Nanny and having had her in my life was a gift. To say that she’ll be missed would be an understatement.

Dear Greg & Wendy, Kelly & Gina, Scott and Suann & Nancy’s Many Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren,
          You are Nancy’s pride and joy and the precious jewels of her crown.  I adore Nancy because of her zest, enthusiasm, and positive outlook which kept her afloat no matter what life threw at her whether it is death of beloved Wayne, the trials and tribulations of worrying and caring for her family, failing health, or even the flood waters of Harvey.  She was the unsinkable Molly Brown!  For close to two decades, Bessie, Kay, Nancy, & I worked closely and lovingly as the library staff of Milby High School.  Nancy or a.k.a. Coach Shoemaker’s Wi was fiercely devoted to the well-being of the school’s students and staff.   There was no end to her dedication and loyalty.  Nancy in effect was the heart and soul of the Milby library.   I think she read more books than I did.  On a personal note, she was like a caring sister to Bessie, Kay, and me.  Our close-knit relationship endured after retirement.  In almost 40 years, Nancy and I have poured our souls out to each other in hundreds of hours of phone conversations.  Through the years, her favorite sign-off in letters and cards to me was “Your Soul Sister”!  I will miss my “Soul Sister” as I mourn her death with as much grief as I would for a sister!  With heartfelt regret, I apologize that I will not be present at the Aug. 18 memorial service, but I will be there in spirit.  May Nancy rest in eternal peace and may God comfort and console you.
