Nancy was born and raised in Shreveport, Louisiana, and attended Fair Park High School and graduated from Louisiana Tech in Ruston, Louisiana, where she was a member of Sigma Kappa sorority. In 1980 she moved to Houston to pursue her career in computer science.
Nancy was a member of the Blue Bird Circle serving on its board, an avid supporter of Episcopal High School, Kinkaid School, Duchesne Academy, and she chaired and worked on many charitable functions, and a member of St. John the Divine Episcopal Church. Nancy was very diligent about her exercise and workouts, and was a wonderful cook and loved to entertain and travel with her family.
She is survived by her husband, Daniel Frederick Shank, her daughter Meredith Burns Shank, her son John Hiller Shank and her mother-in-law, Maxine Shank. A brother Melvin Lester Derong and his wife Debbie, and their children Ryan, Amy and Wynn survive her as well. Nancy is also survived by numerous relatives and friends. Preceding her in death were her mother and father, Bennie Ryan Hiller and William Louis Hiller. She was an extraordinary and loving wife, mother and daughter.
On Sunday evening, the 12th of December, friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o’clock in the afternoon until eight o’clock in the evening, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
On Tuesday morning, the 14th of December, a funeral service honoring the life of Nancy Hiller Shank is to be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning, at The Church of St. John the Divine, 2450 River Oaks Boulevard in Houston, where The Rev. Dr. Laurens A. Hall, Rector, is to officiate.
The graveside service and interment is to follow, via an escorted cortege, at Glenwood Cemetery in Houston.
Honored to serve as casket bearers during the services are Harrison Ryan Stow, Ryan Lasater Derong, Wynn Traillour Derong, Ben Tucker, Christopher Miller Long, Rolla Lewis Long III, Ryan Bicknell, Eric Bicknell, Scott Bicknell and Todd Bicknell.
Immediately following the interment, all are invited to greet the family during a reception to be held at a venue to be announced at the service.
In lieu of flowers and customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions in Nancy’s name be directed to the Blue Bird Circle Clinic at Texas Children’s Hospital, P.O. Box 300630, Houston, TX, 77230-0630.
