Nancy Marsh Sampson, native Houstonian and beloved educator, administrator and dear friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, the 19th of September 2023, at the age of 84. She was born on the 8th of March 1939, to the late R.B. and Lorraine Marsh.
She was educated in Houston schools, and graduated from Reagan High School. During her sophomore year in college, Nancy met her future husband, Freddy Sampson. Nancy and Freddy were married in the church founded by her great grandparents, St. John United Church of Christ, and remained active there.
Nancy earned her bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Houston. She taught at Matzke Elementary in the Cy-Fair district for 2 years, before becoming Assistant Principal. From there, she went on to become principal of Horne and Hairgrove Elementary Schools. She was elected President of Texas Elementary Principals Association. Nancy's love of children and her desire for their education made her a beloved teacher, administrator, and friend. In 2002, the newest school opened in the Cy-Fair District: Nancy Marsh Sampson Elementary.
Nancy and Freddy enjoyed traveling to Europe, Costa Rica, Japan, China, Alaska, and throughout the U.S. She loved to fish, hunt, water ski, snow ski, work in her yard, and visit with friends.
Grateful for having shared her life is her husband of 65 years, Freddy; their son Scott, formerly of California and now of Houston; brother-in-law Bobby Sampson and wife, Cookie; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
