Nancy Jane Owen (nee Newcomb) passed away unexpectedly July 25, 2015, in Houston, Texas. She is now reunited with her loving husband of 33 years, Daniel Kirk Owen, her mother Lynda Lucille (Granny), father Carey Rufe Newcomb, brother Carey, Jr. and his wife Betty.
Nancy was born September 17, 1947, in San Antonio, Texas, but grew up in Bellaire, Texas. Her early introduction to religion was intensive. She was fond of saying she attended two churches every Sunday: the Methodist for Daddy and the Baptist for Mother.
Being the daughter of a Master Mason, the moment she was old enough, Nancy followed suit and joined the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls, a Masonic youth service group. She was proud of her membership and the fact that she held every position offered to young women by the organization.
In 1965, she graduated from Bellaire High School and married her high school sweetheart, Daniel Kirk Owen, on August 12, 1967. They resided in Florida and California until Kirk was discharged from his tour of duty with the Navy.
She was known far and wide for her devotion to holiday celebrations and her eye for decorating. Always at the heart of the festivities, she enjoyed being around people, attending family gatherings, and going to parties.
Nancy Jane adored little children, loved being a mother and was dedicated to her family at her own expense. There when needed, she took care of her nieces that needed to be mothered, worked full time to put her husband through school, cared for her mother-in-law in her later years and even looked after the needs of her neighbors in the senior center where she resided. She never said “No!”
Perhaps your memory will be her smile, dry sense of humor, ability to tell an of-the-cuff-joke and her even-tempered manner. But, you’ll also recall that she had a kind, affectionate and generous heart that never criticized nor condemned.
Nancy is lovingly remembered by her brother Harvey Ray and his wife Dianna, her surviving children, Lynda Sue and husband Mike, Scott Allen and wife Meredith , her two granddaughters, Sarah and Danielle and grandsons Ian and Parker, as well as all of her nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
We will deeply miss Nancy Jane but she leaves us a powerful legacy which was her belief system: That what matters most in life is being grounded, sharing life’s lessons, making memories and staying connected…
