Nancy Mae Getman

Nancy Mae Brunson Getman passed away on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at the age of 73. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, David. Nancy and David have four children, Donna and Darren of Houston, David, Jr. of Atlanta, and D’Andrea and husband Tony of Novi, Michigan. Nana’s greatest pride and joy were her grandchildren, Daniel and his wife April, Devon, Cameron and Sophie and her great-grandson, Landon.

Nancy was born in Claude, Texas and lived in Amarillo until 1972, when she and David moved their family to Houston. She began her nursing career as a labor and delivery nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Houston in 1976. In her 31 year career, she was also the NICU Director at St. Joseph’s and Director of Maternal Child Health at several hospitals in Houston and McAllen, Texas. She retired from Oak Bend Hospital in Richmond, Texas in 2007 after leaving nursing administration and returning to her first love, labor and delivery clinical nursing.

Services will be held at Saturday, December 6, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Brookside Funeral Home, 9149 Hwy. 6 North, Houston. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Nancy’s name to San Jacinto Junior College to help further the career of future nursing students.
