Nancy was born to Maurice and Sophrona Burton on November 2, 1931, in Tulsa, OK. She was raised in Parsons, KS, where she met the love of her life, Richard L. “Buzz” Evans. They were married on September 3, 1950. Nancy graduated from Parsons Jr. College and then off she and Buzz went to Manhattan, KS, so he could attend Kansas State University.
Nancy was a loving mother who was very active raising her children as the family moved around due to Buzz’s job. They lived in Kansas, California, Illinois, Minnesota, Connecticut before moving to their last home in Houston, TX. For a small town girl, Mom loved living around big cities. She got very good at navigating around the big cities, even to the point of hailing cabs in New York City. She was involved in Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts with her children and volunteered in her church as a secretary, bible study leader and as a missions volunteer. She worked as a Kelly Girl for many years and retired from BHP in 1987. She continued to volunteer at the Mission Centers of Houston, Miracle Farm, a woman’s shelter and other missions of Second Baptist Church after retirement. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and in the last few years her great-grandchildren.
The family wants to thank Brookdale Memorial City, Spring Shadows and Hospice for the wonderful care that they gave Mom in the last several years. There are too many to name individually, but know you all are appreciated.
A family memorial service and reception for friends will be held at a future date. Memorials can be sent to the Mission Centers of Houston, 1815 Gano St, Houston, TX 77009 or to Second Baptist Church Missions Department, 6400 Woodway, Houston, TX 77057.
