Myrna Quinones, 62, was called to her heavenly home on Tuesday, February 14, 2023 at 8:02pm. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, and daughter who served her Lord with devotion, and lived her family life with light and love.
Born in New York City in 1960 as the first child to Raúl (Pipo) and Alejandrina (Nina) Rivera, Myrna was affectionately called Mimi. The loving nickname spread through the family, and their church family, Broadway Baptist Spanish Church. The Riveras were a tight-knit, faithful family, who actively participated in many of the church’s ministries, and shared the Gospel of Jesus Christ to many. Mimi was not ashamed to serve the Lord.
At 9 years old she began piano lessons at the Académia de Música Sagrada, rapidly developing a talent that would follow her forever and touch many lives. Shortly thereafter she began assisting her professor with his new students, young and adult. One of those pupils was a 10-year-old she knew from church and school, Ralphie Quinones. Mimi and Ralphie found happiness together and were inseparable, growing up together at both church and school. Wedding Bells rang for them 14 years later in 1984.
While time passed, and childhood nicknames were dropped, there was no change in Myrna’s love of the Lord Jesus Christ, the center of her life. After relocating to Houston, TX in 1995, Myrna served at Central Baptist Church. She gave many years to the Music Department, Sunday School programs, and was the beloved Director of the Children’s Music and Theater Ministry. She did everything with laughs, love and honor – blessing all who got to know her and her talent.
Myrna’s greatest joy in life was being a mother and raising her three daughters, who she loved passionately and unconditionally. She made sure to express her affection to her girls every day. On October 27, 2022, she was thrilled to learn she was going to be a Grandmother! She easily chose her “grandparent name” – her childhood nickname, Mimi. On January 19, 2023, Grandma Mimi met her granddaughter, Eliana Jade, in the NICU. She talked to Eliana, read books, sang, read an original poem, and even held Baby Eliana’s hand. Mimi’s motherly love was one that will carry on for generations to come.
Mimi is survived by her husband Ralph, children Christina, Nina, DiAnna; Granddaughter Eliana; mother Nina; siblings Maribel, Paul and Rita Michelle.
