On the bright and blessed day of November 1, 1947, a bouncing baby boy was born to Touncel and Alean Adams Smith in Long Branch, Texas. Warren, better known as Laval was the second born of four children. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior at an early age at the Corinth Baptist Church in Long Branch, Texas. Warren began his education at Minden Elementary and Nathaniel Q. Henderson Elementary School. He graduated from Kashmere Gardens Jr./Sr. High School. While attending his school he met the love of his life Ester Ruth Norman. He also attended Prairie View A&M University. Laval and Ester were married for fifty years. To this union eight children were born. Warren vested more than 58 years with the Port of Houston as a foreman. He loved his job so he returned after retirement. Warren was affectionately known by his nick name from his coworkers as "Top of the Line" as he was a lover of family and fast cars mainly his "Hell Cat." He was best known for his zeal for life. His personality was as large as his dreams. He loved his family and exhibited it in very unique ways. No matter the setting he always commanded attention in which he gained a great deal of respect. Up to the time of his death, he was still actively working. He loved the Port of Houston. Warren was preceded in death by his parents, Touncel and Alean; his siblings, Touncel Jr., Harrold; his sister, Gloria Faye; daughter, Cristy Williams; granddaughter, Kearah Hunter. Warren leaves to cherish many fun memories his loving wife of 50 years, Ester Ruth; seven children, Vonda Smith, Warren Smith, Gary Smith, Cory Smith (Myisha), LaTasha Hunter (Keeland), Levar Smith and Brandi Smith-Hamilton (Oliver); 21 grandchildren, one great-grandson, and a host of other relatives and friends. War-ren will truly be missed by all who loved him. He never met a stranger.
