Morris Freeman was born July 7, 1948 in Conroe, Texas to Cleve Lionel Freeman, Sr. and Nerie Lee Freeman. Morris was affectionately called 'Fella' by his family and friends and later known as 'Moby' after returning from Vietnam.
He attended elementary, junior high, and two years of high school at Booker T. Washington School, Conroe, Texas; while in junior high school he played the trumpet in the Booker T. Washington School Band. The Freeman family relocated to Los Angeles, California where Morris attended his last two years of high school at Manual Arts High, graduating in 1967.
After graduating from Manual Arts High School, Morris enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving during the Vietnam conflict. While in Vietnam, he experienced intense combat throughout the region, including the DMZ, Da Nang, Phu Bai, Khe Sanh, and Hue City; and he survived the Tet Offensive. He received an honorable discharge and was diagnosed as a 100% disabled veteran. He was employed by the Southern California Gas Company for three years. Morris was intellectually gifted and had natural athletic ability. He was very smart and an avid reader.
Morris 'Moby' Freeman went peacefully to be with the Lord on June 15, 2018. He leaves to cherish unforgettable memories to his loving wife, Griselda Freeman; sons, Marcus and Bryant; two daughters, Chenell and De’Shonn & son inlaw Saadiq. Five grand children Savannah, Rihanna, Bilal, Kameron, Kamari and Elijah. Three brothers and sister inlaws, Cleve & Deborah Freeman, Jr., Fred Freeman and Michael & Janet Freeman; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins also relatives and friends. Preceding him in death was his mother Nerie, father Cleve and his sister Paula Powers.
Morris was a Lifetime Member of the Prairie View Interscholastic League Coaches Association (PVILCA). In 1977 Morris accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, was baptized in Jesus’ name and filled with the Holy Spirit. In his later years he practiced and studied A new way of life as a Hebrew Israelite.
