Monique La'Trece Cumbo

On July 22, 1968, a beautiful baby girl, Monique La'Trece was born to Monarchie Clay, Jr. and Ethel McQueen. Monique was a delightful child and a joy to be around. Following graduation from McArthur High School in 1968, Monique attended the University of Houston. Her unique culinary skills led her to the restaurant industry, where she advanced to the level of General Manager at Shoney's International. Following her tenure at Shoney's, Monique went on to own and operate several restaurants. Her culinary success did not compare to her being a wife to Eddie Cumbo, III for 20 years and mother to son Ronald and daughters Reka and Rachel. As a grandmother, she took special delight in granddaughters Nyla and Skyler. Monique's life seemed too short, but to those she touched it was meaningful Her laugh and Smile will remain a part of us. Even in her final days, Monique gave us hope, courage and love. She was an inspiration as to how we should live and love. Monique showed the meaning of selflessness, unconditional love and an unrelenting faithfulness to our Creator. She never asked for anything. She fought a great battle and won. Her reward is eternal life and peace. Monique leaves to cherish her memory, loving husband Eddie Cumbo, III, three beautiful children, Ronald "Jay", Reka and Rachel; two grandchildren, Nyla and Skyler; mother Ethel McQueen; father, Monarchie Clay, Jr; three siblings, Kenneth McQueen, Tony Sams and Monica Clay Saffold; two nieces, Toni Yvette Coleman and Dom'Nque Coleman, and many other relatives and friends.
