Minnie Rene Taylor was born on May 17, 1954 to Irene Taylor and Jonas (Raymond) Hodge and was reared as the daughter of her cousin Miriam Amanda Taylor Patrick and Vernon Leon Patrick. She was raised as sister to William H. Scoby, Sr. At the age of 5, Minnie knowingly accepted Christ in her life and was baptized by Rev. F.N. Williams, Sr. at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. She attended several churches during her life often teaching youth, single ministries, and women mission. In 2003, Minnie was licensed to minister by Rev. Dwight McKissic in Arlington, Texas at Cornerstone Baptist Church. There she served and taught with the Prison Ministry, Women Ministry, Vacation Bible School, at Youth Camps, and also she served in the Video Ministry with her son. Upon returning back to Houston, Minnie reunited with Antioch Missionary Baptist Church where she taught mission and helped with special programs until distance and health prevailed. She grew up attending Mabel B. Wesley Elementary and M.C. Williams Jr. & Sr. High School. Later, she attended Houston Community College; acquired a license in Cosmetology from Franklin Beauty School; graduated cum laude from Tidewater Community College with an A.S. degree in Business Administration; graduated cum laude from DeVry University with a B.S. in Technical Management; graduated from DeVry/Keller Graduate School of Management with a M.S. degree in Educational Technology; and attended North Central University pursuing a PhD in Education with an emphasis in e-Learning. She was also a member of Top Ladies of Distinction serving the community, elderly, and teens. Minnie was married in 1974 to Arthur Lee Taylor from Austin, Texas and they resided in Houston; Pensacola, Florida; Virginia Beach, Virginia; and, Missouri City, Texas during his Naval Career for 9.5 years. In 1988, she was married to Carlton Ray Allen (San Diego, California) with two sons, and to that union one child was born. Later after relocating in Dallas, she married Donald Baker (Ft. Worth, TX) with a step-daughter. Her employment history was extensive starting with Shell Oil Company and including; Volvo Penta, Xerox, Burroughs, NCR, M & M Products, Boise Cascade, Moore Business Forms, PageNet, and Office Depot - Office Products Division. For years Minnie worked part-time with various companies and went into her own business as an author, publisher, selling advertising specialty items, and custom gift items. In 2005, she entered in the field of education teaching Business Education at Dominion Academy (former HISD Charter Middle School). In 2006 to 2011 she taught at John F. Kennedy Elementary School for four years as a Teacher Assistant and one year as a certified teacher teaching second grade. She also, started instructing part-time in 2010 with Houston Community College as an Adjunct Professor with the Business Technology Division. Her passion was to educate, inspire, and prepare inquiring minds for their future. Minnie leaves to mourn: her son, Patrick Taylor Allen; step-sons -Rodgerick M. Allen and Christopher Allen; half-sisters -Ester Mae Taylor, Mary Frances (Lonnie) Stewart, Barbara Chandler, Darlene Hodge-Tillis, Mary Alice Spriggs; God-sister- Anita Fortune Shepherd; half-brothers - James Kizee, James Hodge, Reginald & Ronald Williams, Kevin & Ronald Hadley; God-brother - Rev.Will Patrick Fortune, Sr; God-son - Montian Jackson; God-daughters - Tracey Hayes ( ) Jasey, Michelle Smith, and Anesa Sterling; honorary God-daughters - Lisa Lacy Calhoun, Oshundra Lacy Jones, Tamara Glaspie, Roshawn Bell, and Lisa Ester; a host of relatives from the Patrick, Taylor, and Hodge Families; life-long friends like sisters and brothers - Janice (Michael) Glaspie, Carolyn (Kenneth) Smith, Loretta (Cleveland ) Morrison ;Audrey (James) Williams, Roberta Taylor, Ada Johnson, Rev. Floyd Williams, II & the M. C. Williams Class of '72; Marvis (Ret. Minnie Rene' Taylor, 60, beloved mother of Patrick Taylor Allen, transitioned from earth to glory on September 28, 2014. Services for Ms.Taylor will be held Thursday, October 9, 2014.
