Mildred C. Vogt passed away peacefully on Friday, the 9th of August 2013. She was born on the 22nd of July 1918 in Waco, Texas to the late Cone Lawson Cross and Caroline (Callie) Menefee Cross. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles Frank Vogt; her sister Charline McAnear; her brother, Milton C. Cross and his wife Dorothy; her niece, Nancy Lewis Trainer, and her most precious daughter, Christine Vogt Malone. God, we all loved her and miss her so much.
Mildred moved with her parents at age 2 to Houston, residing in the Heights area and attended school there graduating from Reagan High School in 1935. When she ventured into the working world in accounting and bookkeeping she was associated with Eastern States Petroleum Corp., Coastal States Gas Co. and The Texas Gas Association.
She met the “love of her life”, Charles F. Vogt in 1940 and they lived with their children in the West University area. They were long time members of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, where she was active in Women of the Church and in Circle Work and bible study class. She also was a member of Braes Republican Women’s Club.
Mildred was devoted to her children and beloved grandchildren. She is survived by her son, Charles F. Vogt Jr.; son-in-law, Michael Malone; sister, Maurine Rheinold; cousin, Sue Millar; nieces, Marsha (John) Beeson, Janet Sutherland, and Anita McAnear; nephew, Daniel (Linda) Cross. Beloved grandchildren; Craig Malone, Marci (Rob) Fabregas, Caroline Malone, and Brian Fishel; Chad Vogt, Keith Vogt, Jessica Vogt, Melanie Wainwright, P.F.C. Jarred Vogt, Jeremy Vogt. Great-grandchildren, Courtney Fishel and Jordan Wainwright, and loving nieces-in-law; Louise Martino, Bertha Grace and Maurine Bauer.
A funeral service is to be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning on Wednesday, the 14th of August in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Dr. in Houston, where Jane Whitney, Executive Pastor of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church is to officiate.
The immediate family will gather for a private interment at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family suggest memorial contributions be made in Mildred’s memory to St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 5308 Buffalo Speedway, Houston, TX, 77005.
