Mildred Shipp passed away after a long illness on January 19, 2014. She was preceeded in death by her beloved husband, Morris Shipp, and her brother, Wade Pitts. She is survived by her three children, Margaret Shipp and husband Timothy Ernst, Carol Shattuck and husband David Shattuck, and Roger Shipp; four grandchildren, Sarah Ernst, Katherine Ernst, Kendra Shattuck and Timothy Shattuck; and sisters, Connie Watson, Carolyn Summers and Margaret Keel. Born in Jonesboro, Arkansas, Mildred attended local elementary, junior high and high schools and Northwestern University (B.S. in chemistry). After graduation, she was employed as a research chemist at Shell Chemical in Houston, Texas. In Houston, Mildred met and married Morris Shipp and worked with him for 30 years at Shipp Sales Company. Mildred was a longtime member at South Main Baptist Church, teaching Sunday School and volunteering in the English as a Second Language Program (SMILE). In addition, she was an avid rose gardener and a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.The family would like to thank her caregivers Dionne, Rayleen, Aretha and Betty for their assistance in making her last years so comfortable and filled with joy.Visitation will be at 5:00pm on January 21, 2014 at South Main Baptist Church, 4100 Main Street. Following a private interment, memorial services will be held on January 22, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the sanctuary at South Main Baptist Church, 4100 Main Street. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the South Main Baptist Church Foundation.
