Mike Provenzano, devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather, was born on the 9th of March 1917 in Bryan, Texas, and passed away peacefully on the 10th of January 2011 at the age of 93. Mike was fun loving, full of life and never met a stranger.
He was born to immigrant parents Ben and Camilla Provenzano from Corleone, Sicily. Mike married the love of his life, Josie Marie Listi, and at the time of her death they had been married 66 years. Mike was a devoted Catholic where he ushered at Sunday masses at St. Anne’s Catholic Church. Mike loved being around food and continued to work in the grocery business for years.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Joe Johnny; his sisters, Francis Cutaia and Rose Boykins . He is survived by his daughters, Camilla Rose Maida, Mary Virginia and husband Vincent A. Mandola and Miklyn Marie Provenzano; his grandchildren, Sal Maida III, Laura Maida Plympton, Darla (Maida) and husband Kyle Shumaker, Vinceanne (Mandola) and husband Jeff Green, Mary Dana (Mandola) and husband Peter Corbett, Tiffany and Courtney Penry; his great grandchildren, Vincent, Antonino and Gianni Green, Micaela, Julia, and Peter Joseph Corbett, Sal Maida IV, Brittney Plympton and Michael Shumaker; his brother Bonney Provenzano and wife Rosie and sister-in-law Louise Listi. Special thanks are given to his friends and caregivers at Brighton Gardens of Bellaire, where he enjoyed playing his harmonica, dancing and last year was crowned prom king.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from four o’clock in the afternoon until eight o’clock in the evening on Wednesday, the 12th of January, at Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston, where the Recitation of the Holy Rosary will commence at half-past six o’clock.
The Funeral Mass is to be conducted at ten o’clock in the morning on Thursday, the 13th of January at St. Anne Catholic Church, 2140 Westheimer Road.
Honored to serve as Pallbearers during the service are Sal Maida III, Peter Corbett, Jeff Green, Kyle Shumaker, Ron Jordan, Louis Pomaro, Louis Cutaia and Sal Maida IV. Honored to serve as Honorary Pallbearers are Vincent A. Mandola, Bonney Provenzano, Tracy Provenzano, Sam J. Listi, Sam F. Listi and Anthony Listi.
The Rite of Committal is to immediately follow, via an escorted cortege, to the Garden of Gethsemani at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery, 6900 Lawndale Avenue.
