Miguel Mazuca Felan was born on January 22, 1922 in San Antonio, Texas to Pedro Felan and Helena Mazuca Felan. Miguel was the youngest of eight children. July 27, 1941 Miguel married Esther Menchaca, and through the years had six children. Mike Junior, Alicia Raquel, Dorothy Esther, Mary Ann, Albert and Gladys. December 18, 1944 Miguel was called to serve his country in The United States Army, during the time of World War II. While in the military he volunteered to become a paratrooper in order to be able to send a little more allotment to his wife and young family. January 21, 1945 he received an Honorable Discharge from the Army. Miguel continued to educate himself and went to trade school under the G.I. Bill that was offered to him. He studied to become an upholster; this paved the way for him to move his family to Houston, Texas where he later started his career. He started working out to his home later opened a small shop on the corner of Mandel and Westheimer. Miguel and Esther taught their children to attend church, serve the Lord, prepare yourself with an education, love one another and to live by the golden rule. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." Miguel struggled with his health the last seven years of his life. He fought to stay healthy, he lost that battle in his home with his wife of 73 years by his side on September 25, 2014.
