He was a member of Carver Heights Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Tyler Carter where he accepted Christ. He attended Wilmer Hutchins High School where he played the alto and baritone horn and was an athletic trainer. He later attended Prairie View A&M University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology Pre-Med in 1978.
Mickey met Sharon Denise Porter on the campus of Prairie View. The two were later married on November 3, 1976. To this union two sons Mitchell and Marlon were born. Soon thereafter, the family established their home in Missouri City, Texas.
After graduation Mickey worked at Church’s Chicken until being hired at Dixie Chemical Company as a Chemical Lab Technician for 25 years.
Mickey was a man of many talents, hobbies and interests. He was an automotive enthusiast, motorcycle rider, DIY contractor, entrepreneur and PawPaw.
He made his transition from this life on Monday, June 24, 2024. He is preceded in death by his wife Sharon Sands, parents Bernard and Charles Etta Sands and sister Phyllis Ann Sands.
Mickey is survived by his two sons: Mitchell B. Sands (Jennifer) of Sugar Land, TX and Marlon J. Sands (Braiyon) of Manvel, TX; four granddaughters: Layla, Bailee, Aria, and Cadence Sands; sister: Jacquelyn Sands Lane of Dallas, TX; mother-in-law: Beverly Porter Williams of Richmond, TX; sister-in-law: Michelle Porter Buford (Anthony Buford, Sr) of Richmond, TX; three nephews: Absalom and William Lane and Anthony Buford Jr. He also leaves to cherish his memory a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends whose lives he has touched.
