Michael Vasquez, age 67, of Houston, Texas passed away on Saturday, December 12, 2020 after a courageous fight with a genetic polycystic kidney disease. Michael will be remembered for his kind heart and warm smile that was shared with everyone he encountered. He had a great sense of humor and always a joke to brighten your day. His strong work ethic was evident when he delivered products for Allbright TV and Blue Bell. The last 11 years he dedicated countless hours to serving others at Brookside Memorial Park & Crematory. Michael was an outstanding team member and friend to many. He traveled to locations all over Houston and the surrounding areas to assist families.
On any given weekend, Michael could be found going garage sale hopping. He would go to thrift stores and garage sales all day. He liked the hunt of finding unique and small treasures that could be shared with his family. He found value in what others viewed as junk. Going on "road trips" was always enjoyable and he loved stopping by the Casinos. He believed that if he spent his money and won it back, that he was a "Big Winner". He always left a "Winner" no matter what! In his spare time, Michael enjoyed enhancing his landscaping skills in the yard. During the new construction of Brookside Funeral Home, he transplanted several rose bushes in the cemetery and was gifted some for his garden at home. He cherished those rose bushes and faithfully cared for them until his health failed.
While traveling, he liked to pick up odd keepsakes like turtles made out of anything; from wire and wood, to glass and ceramics. He liked to find unique places to travel and visited Cuba over six times. During each visit, he would pack an extra suitcase full of supplies and goodies for the kiddos in the local area. He loved giving to those in need and supporting the less fortunate. Michael also supported a local charity hospital that helped him when he was born with club feet. His condition improved after several surgeries that spanned from infancy to 17 years old. He never let his past condition hinder his ability to play baseball, football or any sport with his brothers, cousins and neighborhood friends. In honor of his memory, please donate to his favorite organization, Shriners Hospitals for Children ~ Houston, by visiting: www.lovetotherescue.org or email: [email protected].
Michaels's memories will be cherished by his loving wife of 41 years, Melchora "Mel" G. Vasquez; son, Michael Anthony Vasquez (Jennifer); grandchildren: Seth, Alyssa, Adriana, Chloe, C.J., Mackenzie & Connor; brothers: Butch Vasquez and wife Kathy, John Vasquez, Randy Vasquez & wife Rosa, Jack Vasquez & wife Eva; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the start of the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. at the Brookside Memorial Park ~ Chapel of Chimes on Sunday, December 20, 2020. Per Michael's wishes, a private cremation will be held following the service.
