Michael or Mike as he was known by many was born in Chios, Greece on November 30th, 1939. After high school he studied at The Tselementes Greek Culinary School. Michael worked on vessels in Greece as the Head Chef. He was in the Greek Army Intelligence Unit and worked for the United States Government. After marrying Grace and moving to Galveston, he worked as the Head Chef at the Manhattan Café. He was also a long shore man, and was a Galveston County Sheriff’s Deputy. He was named Deputy of the year. He opened up International Marine Supply as a Ship Chandler with offices in Greece, New York, Louisiana, Galveston, and Houston.
Everybody knew that Mike a straight shooter, a hard worker and his faith in God was at the forefront of his thoughts. He had a passion for cooking and he always wanted to make sure everyone had food to eat. He loved going to estate sales and finding hidden treasures to give to everyone, he met. After retiring, he opened up a station at a flea market and sold his treasures, as the Greek American Picker. He looked forward to watching Wheel of Fortune, his Scratch Off Lottery Tickets, telling jokes, connecting with everyone he met, cigars, cold weather, and he loved the rain.
Anyone that knew Michael knew that he had a tough hard exterior, but had a gentle soul with a heart of gold. As a husband and father, he always provided a home and tried his best to give everything his family needed and wanted. As a Papou, he loved spending time with his grandson rail fanning. He would have fought to the ends of the earth to protect and provide for his family.
Now Mihaly can fly with the eagles, free and strong as the heavens surround him on his journey home.
Services will be officiated by Father Michael of The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral. Pallbearers are Allan Morris, Shawn Daniel, George Molho, Ramiro Barrios, and Paul Merkel.
